The first films
The Dull Sword and The Battle of the Monkey and the Crab, both from 1917, are among the oldest Japanese animated films to survive.
The masters
Sanae Yamamoto, Yasuji Murata, Noburō Ōfuji and Kenzō Masaoka shaped the craft with films such as Ubasuteyama, The Lump, The Black Cat and The Spider and the Tulip.
